Zijderlaan is "Constantly Green in Motion." As one of our core values, sustainability plays an important role in our overall business operations. We continuously analyze our logistics transport flows, gas, energy and diesel oil consumption (our footprint) so that we can optimize and reduce CO2 emissions wherever possible. Not only for ourselves, but also for our customers and the environment.

More and more is being asked and expected of every entrepreneur today in the areas of sustainability, corporate social responsibility and circular economy. The Netherlands faces the major task of drastically reducing CO2 emissions (by 49% by 2030 compared to 1990). In order to achieve these ambitious goals, everyone in the logistics chain will have to do their 'reduction bit'. We are actively working to improve our footprint as much as possible and to help our customers achieve their environmental goals. In doing so, we closely follow sustainability developments and technologies and respond quickly to new opportunities.

Through the carbon reduction goals we pursue at Zijderlaan, we not only achieve our own goals,

Zijderlaan participates in Lean & Green's CO2 reduction program. In 2019, we received the 1st Lean & Green STAR Award for achieving 24% CO2 reduction within 5 years. In 2023, this was joined by the second star. Among other things, we have achieved these goals by efficiently deploying our trucks resulting in lower CO2 per ton/km. Every day, our professional planning departments and drivers strive to minimize empty miles, drive the most efficient routes and move as economically as possible in traffic.

Naturally, we have the ambition to achieve a 3rd STAR Award as well. For this we will continue to improve sustainably and work intensively with our clients to reduce CO2.

In 2020, we invested in renewable solar energy. A total of about 900 solar panels have been installed on our sheds in Stolwijk. These generate the maximum feasible amount of energy within the utility connection. We use the generated solar energy for our own power supply when we are in operation. Any energy that is not directly used we feed back to the utility grid.

The annual output is about 263,270 kWh. With this, we reduced 175 tons of CO2 in the first year.

We also have 552 solar panels on the roof of our new building in which Zijderlaan Truck and Trailer Service is located. This provides our entire workshop with electricity. Because the building is also gas free, and thus uses a heat pump, the building is energy neutral.

In the spring of 2022, our new state-of-the-art workshop was completed. This building was built according to the so-called BENG standard (Nearly Energy Neutral Building). We perform repairs and maintenance on our trucks and trailers with little to no impact on the environment. We generate our own energy and heat with solar panels and a heat pump. In doing so, we do not use natural gas. A building with zero electricity meters!

Our fleet (truck units) consists of 80% DAF trucks. DAF is introducing a completely new range of trucks that responds to the new European regulations for dimensions and weights. In January 2022, we will add the first new DAF XG to our fleet.

With the new generation of trucks, DAF realizes lower fuel consumption (up to 10%) and an equal reduction in CO2 emissions. This is achieved, among other things, through the optimal aerodynamic shape. The highly energy-efficient vehicle platform is fully prepared for future powertrains, such as fuel cells and hydrogen combustion engines. The ultra-modern diesel engines are clean and economical and suitable for the latest generations of biofuels to further reduce CO2 emissions from road transport.Ons doel is om in 2024 alleen nog maar met trucks te rijden die een Euro 6 motor of zuiniger hebben.
