DC Zijderlaan - Puttershoek
Pallet cranes, VAL and oxygen reduction efficiently combined.

Centralisation leads to increased capacity, sustainability and cost savings
Zijderlaan manages the entire logistics chain for Cosun Beet Company at the Cosun Beet Company site (formerly Suiker Unie) in Puttershoek. With a capacity of around 5,000 pallets, the old sugar warehouse did not offer the necessary space for growth. External manual storage locations incurred additional costs. Zijderlaan presented an innovative high-bay warehouse concept to Cosun Beet Company, with the key outcomes being: a significant expansion of storage capacity, lower costs, and more sustainable and efficient operations.
Computer-controlled pallet cranes
With a floor area of 6,500 m², the Zijderlaan Distribution Centre in Puttershoek now has capacity for around 17,500 pallets. The high-bay warehouse, which is connected to the speciality factory where consumer sugar, amongst other things, is packaged, can store and handle a wide variety of sugar products. The products are transported 24 hours a day from the production site (speciality factory) to the storage site via automated conveyor technology. Three computer-controlled pallet cranes then ensure that products are stored in the high-bay warehouse and retrieved when a customer order is received. The products are then fully automated onto the correct outbound conveyors in the dispatch area, ready for transport.
At the customer’s request, mixed-product pallets can be assembled to specific customer requirements. Other Value Added Logistics include, for example, tilting (for changing pallets), labelling and wrapping/sealing. This ensures that bespoke deliveries are always guaranteed.
